The Election Committee is responsible for ensuring that you can take part in the election, either as a candidate or as a voter. The Election Committee’s taks is to organise the election of 41 representatives to Uppsala Student Union’s council, which is the Student Union’s highest decision-making body.

The Committee has three representatives and is lead by a chairperson. The Committee is chosen at the Council meeting held in September and the Committee sits for a year at a time and may not run for election during their mandate period.

The Committee’s representatives for 2009/2010 are Karin Neil Persson (chairperson), Elin Loberg (vice chairperson) och Hanna Stam.

This year’s election campaign, which is run parallel with the parties’ own campaigns is called ”Your Student Union”, with an emphasis on “student power”.

The aim with the campaign is to awaken the interest amongst students for the Student Union and its work, especially students who haven’t previously been in contact with the Student Union. It is hoped that this will also help to raise interest for the election. By bringing up what the Student Union can do for you in a concrete manner we hope to get as many students as possible to actively contribute to raising the turn out for the election.

In the election you have the choice to vote for a specific party, or to vote for specific individuals – just as you can in governmental elections in many countries.

In the election you will be choosing the 41 students who will be form the Student Unions highest decision-making body, the Council (fullmäktige). In addition to choosing the Board (styrelse) and choosing those students who will exercise your right to student representation according to the Higher Education Act, it is these 41 students who decide what the Student Union thinks in political questions, what service you should get from the Student Union and even the size of the student union fee.
