The student representatives will then discuss current issues in the student council, and bring forward the students' opinions and ideas to the groups they have been appointed to. It could be, for instance, changing the course literature at a certain course, or the need for a new course.
The student council can also run their own projects directed at the University, if they feel the need to complain or improve on certain things. For instance, the students in the student council might think that their programme does not include enough writing practice, and then the student council can try to change that.
When the individual student encounters a problem - for instance when a student feels badly treated by his or her supervisor - the student council may also be of help, either by taking it up with someone in the department, or by referring to someone else who can help that student.
If you have ideas as to what can be improved in your education, if you want to influence your own study situation for the better, or if you feel unhappy about something related to your education, you should contact the student council at your department.
Every faculty has one or two so-called Student Liaison Officers (studiebevakare). Do not hesitate to contact your Student Liaison Officer if you have any questions about the student councils in your faculty. Maybe there is no student council for your programme, then you must inform the Student Liaison Officer about that!
