What does Uppsala Student Union want?

Uppsala Student Union believes:

  • that student aid should be given throughout the year
  • that the student aid system must be administered in a well-functioning manner
  • that a generous practice for repayment exemptions is guaranteed, so that students are secured the financial means to finish their education

Uppsala Student Union demands:

  • that the total amount of student aid is increased substantially
  • that the amount of money a student can earn on the side (fribeloppet) is increased, and is calculated within the semester
  • that the total amount of student aid consists of equal parts of student grants and student loans
  • that the total amount of student aid should be the basis for retirement benefits
  • that student loans are written of at retirement
  • that child benefits for students are maintained and increased
  • that the regulations for student loan repayments simplify the transition between studies and work, in addition to being flexible with regards to interrupted studies, unemployment or low income
  • that all departments carry insurances for m/paternity leave, sick leave and retirement for PhD students on grants or scholarships
  • that all PhD students financed by their faculties are offered employment no later than two years prior to their final doctoral exam
  • that students should have the right to individual assessments for social security support if they lack other financing means during the summer
