The president is in charge of the work of the Executive Council, and of the Union's finances. Other important tasks for the president are the issues related to personell, work-place management and organisational issues, which are tackled in cooperation with the vice presidents. In addition to these internal issues, the president also has the overall responsibility for the Student Union's views and activities.
In addition to the organisational and financial responsibilities, the president has the role of representing the Student Union and its members externally, in various bodies and other settings. Most importantly, the president represents the students at the decisive meetings of the Vice-Chancellor (Rektors beslutssamanträden, RS) and the meetings of the University Management. RS is held once a week and is the meeting where the Vice Chancellor of Uppsala University makes his decisions after they have been presented by other members of the meeting. The president of Uppsala Student Union is the only student representative there, conveying the students' views and perspectives. The University Management also meets once a week, to exchange information and to discuss i.a. what is to be discussed at the next RS. The president of the Student Union is also present at these meetings.
The Student Union president represents the students and the Student Union in other circumstances as well, such as in meetings with local and national politicians. Also among the president's tasks are participating in debates, panels, giving speeches and participating in official events and visits.
