We build awareness on reproductive health issues among Uppsala's students. We work to inform and give Uppsala's students the chance to take the responsibility for their own sexual and reproductive health, to know their rights in this field and to respect the rights of others. Our aim is to decrease the number of STI/HIV (sexually transmitted infections) and unwanted pregnancies among students. All our awareness-building activities are based on a positive view on sexuality, i.e. the view that all mutual sexual activity is positive and should not be condemned in any way.
Kondoma Mera is not here to lecture people on condom use. We think there are several ways to make sex safer, one of which is to use condoms. We want to encourage students to practice safer sex, and to go and do a check-up if they have had unprotected sex. Sexually transmitted infections can be symptom-free, and one can be infected for a long time without knowing it. Chlamydia is one such infection, which can cause sterility if it is not treated in time. Unsafe sex, therefore, always involves an unnecessary risk.
During the autumn, ambassadors from Kondoma Mera will be out on campus and in the various nations to talk about safer sex, to answer questions and hand out free condoms, femidoms, lubricants and brochures. You will recognise us by our green, flowery equipment and our healthy attitude!
Nations and student associations are welcome to book Kondoma Mera's ambassadors to their events. We gladly adjust our presentations according to your wishes. For instance, we can have information stands, hold presentations before an audience, organise safe-sex quizzes or other kinds of fun and educational competitions, moderate group discussions, etc.
