Section of Social Sciences

1The section of social sciences was founded in 2010. The section’s main tasks are to guarantee student representation in the university bodies, to promote active student associations and to help in developing educational quality. The member associations of the sections are central for the section’s work, and much of the section’s work is done in cooperation with the member associations.

The Section of Social Sciences represents students at:
- the Department of Psychology
- the Department of Sociology
- the Department of Peace and Conflict Research
- the Department of Government
- the Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics

The section council is the highest decision-making body and the democratic body of the Section of Social Sciences. The members of the Section Council are chosen through elections at the section’s member associations. The section council serves to strengthen the member associations’ work, coordinate possible common efforts and events as well as to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the associations. This is done through regular meetings, joint section events and by allocating funds for specific projects.

The section council is made up of:
- Uppsala beteendevetare, For behavioural science students
- Studierådet Culina, For students at the Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics
- Föreningen Samhällsvetarna, For social science students
- Uppsala Peace and Development Students’ Association, For peace and development students
- Uppsala Politices Studerande, For government students
- PSI, Psykologstuderandes Intresseförening, For psychology students
- Dynamicus, For HR students
- SVUU, For social work students

The section has a Student Liaison Officer (SLO) that work full time with assisting the section’s work. The SLO works for improving educational quality and students’ working environment. You can turn to the SLO with problems related to your studies, such as problems with lecture halls, correction of exams, if the work burden is too high/low or just if you don’t know where to turn with a specific question.

The SLO’s office is at Ekonomikum, Kyrkogårdsgatan 10C, room A224 (right across the student reception).
Telephone: 018-471 68 89
E-mail: studiebev.sam [at]
Reception hours: Wednesdays 11-13 (the SLO is mostly at the office the other hours as well, so try knocking the door).

You’re welcome!

The section is also on Facebook!
